It is possible for your car’s paint to peel off and there may be some areas of your car which will have rust on it. Rusting is achieved when oxidation occurs on iron and any of its alloys. First step is preparation. You need to use a sand paper made of 150-grit in order to remove the rust, the paint and primer around the affected area. Make sure that you sand the area so that the only thing remaining will be the metal. Make it a point to even out the edges of the area so that you are unable to feel any borders between the metal part and the unaffected areas surrounding it.
Second step is repair. For this step you need to fill in the gaps or small holes caused by the rust. You can buy an automotive filler and use it to cover up these holes. Let it dry and then once it is dry use a 120-grit sandpaper to smooth the area. What we want to achieve is to have the filler level with the normal car surface. After leveling it, you have to again subject it to sanding using a 120-grit sandpaper to be able to smooth it thoroughly.
Third step is to do painting and finishing. Use some tape to cover up the surrounding area which you will not be painting. Start with spraying three light coatings of primer on the affected area. Let dry each coating before spraying the next coat. After letting the primer dry, you can then spray the paint on using at least three to four coatings on the affected area. Make sure to let the paint dry. It is recommended that you let the area dry for one whole day to be sure that it is indeed dry already.
Afterwards, you can use a microfiber cloth as well as grease in order to make the affected area achieve a high sheen. You can then wash your car and also wax it as well to make it look brand new. These are the easy steps on how to fix your rusted car. Ensure that you act on the rust on your car quickly because it is easy for the rusted area to spread.
