Fashion and clothing is historically a universal interest. In the biblical story of Joseph, his father’s favoritism was evidenced in a many-colored coat. He was a California boy that was born in the 1940’s, in Newport Beach. At a very young age, he was preoccupied with tattoo art and wanted to be a tattoo artist. He is not only a tattoo artist, but one of the truest forms of an artist. His work is displayed at exhibitions, in museums, and in galleries. His professions are painter, tattoo artist and print-maker. He was so popular, that a line of clothing based on his art took off, and was picked up by major companies for promotion. He can be referred to as a jack of all trades in the art world. He seems to be successful at everything he touches. While at the San Francisco Art Institute in the 1960’s, he developed his art of tattooing. When he graduated, with a BA in Fine Arts, his friend Sailor Jerry Collins, helped arrange for him to study under a Japanese Master in Japan. So, in 1973, off to Japan he went, to study.
His first company was a publishing company started in 1982. It was begun by he and his wife and named Hardy Apero Marks Publications. There have been twenty plus books published by him under this company, that include catalogs of both his work and the work of Jerry Collins. Ed Hardy gives Jerry Collins a great deal of credit for all of the color changes in the art of tattoo.
Not only does he love to tattoo, buy he loves to study it. He is an historian on the subject of tattoos and tattoo lore. A man that could have gone to Yale, gave it up for art. It would tell us to give artists credit for being extremely gifted in more than one area.
Hardy’s works are shown in museums, galleries, and exhibitions. He is not just another tattoo artist. He is a true artist who made tattooing an art form. He no longer does tattoos himself, but he does watch over the business, and overseas the other artists.
The clothing line came out in 2002, and was designed based on his tattoo art. Within two years, it had the attention of some major department stores. In 2004, Christian Audigier owned the rights to produce. In 2009, Iconix owned half interest in the Ed Hardy Brand.
Ed Hardy is big art and he has turned it into big business. He is the truest sense of both an artist and an entrepreneur. He has taken something that he loved to do and made a career out of it. You do not get a better career than that.

Established by David Abercrombie in 1892, Abercrombie & Fitch Co., did not take on its official name until 1904, when Ezra Fitch became co-owner. Ezra Fitch had previously been a prominent New York attorney, and he left his practice and bought major shares in the company. Until that point, he had only been one of the stores biggest customers. The store began as an upscale sporting goods store, in Manhattan. Read on for the facts Regarding Abercrombie company history.
Unfortunately, the partnership did not last, and it ended in 1907. There were many disagreements over the direction of the business. Abercrombie wanted to remain in the business of strictly selling sporting goods, while Fitch wanted sell items that would appeal to more people. When Abercrombie sold out to Fitch, he simply got other partners and continued the business.
Fitch continued with his expansions, and they nearly ran him into bankruptcy, however, they did pay off in many ways. Abercrombie and Fitch put out their first catalog in 1909. It cost them a dollar each to publish them, which was a small fortune in that time period. The catalogs were given away free to any customers that visited the store. The were able to make their historical landmark by being the first New York store to sell clothing to men and women. In 1913, when the moved, they started a sportswear line, and in 1917, they moved to a twelve story building on Madison Avenue, of which they occupied all twelve stories. They became the first American store to import Mahjong. A customer inquired about the game she had played in China, Fitch had it imported, translated into English, and A&F became the center for Mahjong.
Charles Lindberg wore an outfit supplied by A&F in 1927, when he made his historic flight over the Atlantic Ocean. When Fitch retired in 1928, he sold all of his shares, and they were purchased by James Cobb, who was his brother-in-law. Cobb ended up purchasing several other companies while in charge.
The depression affected A&F just as it did every other business, and it was 1938 before they could even begin to recover. Though they did alright during the sixties, buy the seventies, they were not doing well. They ended up filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy in 1977. A retail chain purchased them in 1978, and tried to revive them by opening new stores. That particular retail chain was Oshman’s.
By 1988, Limited had purchased A&F, but it was still in trouble. Michael Jeffries became the president and decided to direct the market toward teen clothing. The teen market seemed to be the best way for the business to go financially, and it was a success. What would Abercrombie & Fitch have thought about the LFO Song, Summer Girls? Fitch probably would have appreciated the free advertising.

The Tale of the Juicy Couture company history starts in 1994 when co-designers Gela Nash-Taylor, and Pamela Skaist-Levy started a clothing line called Travis Jeans. The fashion line achieved success concentrating on paternity jeans that were comfy and stylish.
In 1996 the girls changed the direction of the fashion line. They dropped the jeans in an effort to create a more femininely flattering design, and started the Juicy Couture line. They had wanted to create a line that was both sexy & stylish, but comfortable as well.
The clothing line was started by the Juicy Duo out of their home in Pacoima, California. They wanted to get more exposure for their line so the they decided on giving their finished designs to Hollywood stars like Madonna, J Lo and Cameron Diaz. It was not long before one of them discovered the girls’ talent; Madonna was spotted wearing a low riding draw string pants and a curve hugging zip up hoody with the embroidered word “Madge” on it. Madonna’s appearance caused almost instant success for the line. Shortly after, Hollywood was suddenly full of stars sporting Juicy Couture. The outfit that Madonna was wearing was the Juicy Couture most famous outfit the Tracksuit. The embroidered Madge is not really seen on Juicy Couture clothing anymore. The bottoms to the suits all have the signature juicy written across the backside.
With the desire to extend the Juicy Couture line to the east coast, the Juicy girls held an east coast debut party to launch a new line. The affair was a hit; soon after Juicy Couture established a successful store in New York.
During 1999, Juicy Couture announced a new line of jeans named Juicy Jeans. During 2001, the Juicy Duo brought tracksuit back to the fashion world. The suits were planned to emphasize a lady’s curves and made of comfy soft fabrics such as velour, or cashmere, terry cloth, and fleece.
During 2002, Juicy Couture began offering their line of apparel to Children, Men, and even dogs. Doggy merchandise consisted of collars, dog beds, toys, leashes, carriers, and clothing.
In 2003 Liz Claiborne Inc. Bought Travis Jeans Inc. From Gela and Pamela for the price of $53 million they were also given a percentage of the future proceeds. Today Gela and Pamela still remain presidents of the fashion line and still design the fashion concepts.
Through the support of Liz Claiborne, during 2004, the fashion line developed into a world famous line. Juicy Couture expanded their woman’s products presenting lines of jewelry, handbags, swim wear, shoes, cologne and perfume. Currently the fashion line remains to present the most trendy and comfy clothing in the business.

When you shop for fashionable handbags, be sure the store you are in has an ample selection. There are department stores in New York City that have city block size floors of handbags.
