It is a fascinating experience to visit an early art gallery. A rock overhang perched above a valley where the movement of game could be easily surveyed still holds the works of cave people who were expressing themselves through art when colonialism and invasion loomed over their way of life.

In general, artists seem to be moved by needs which are at the top of the hierarchy. Within themselves there is a force which they must express. Most young children experience some creative impulses. In many it is quickly obliterated but true artists retain the urge to express themselves and if they are fortunate they find the medium which bests suits their talents.
As in writing, skills development and the excitement of creating something new and original is logically linked with the natural impulse to exhibit, or shout out aloud what one has done, seeking appreciation. There may be an element of narcissism in every artist but it is the quality of the message that emerges as something with its own life. That is why masterpieces attain an existence of their own far exceeding the lives of their creators.
Masterpieces of art are exhibited in all the great galleries throughout the world. Art critics write so much about them that the artists themselves would probably be bewildered to know how much more their painting means than they realized themselves.
This is due to the imagination. An artist uses his imagination to create a scene or portrait and it is the imaginative integrity of a picture that gives it a life of it own beyond the details that an artist puts into it. The critics’ comments may be perfectly valid. The artist and the critic have quite different roles to play in art.

A national college admission examination, the ACT consists of subject area tests in English, mathematics, reading, and science plus an optional writing exam.
Originally, “ACT” stood for American College Testing. But, the name of the organization was changed to only ACT in 1996, and it came to represent a whole plethora of programs and services offered beyond college admission testing.

The ACT tests are universally accepted for college admission.
This test cannot be compared to an IQ or aptitude test. The questions found in the ACT test specifically target information learned in high school in the subjects of English, math and science.
ACT does not only offer tests, but also a plethora of other services including a profile of high school achievements and plans for the future, and a large inventory of career opportunities and information.
In the U.S., the ACT is administered on five national test dates in October, December, February, April, and June. A handful of states also administer the ACT in September.
The ACT tests are prepared in accordance with the following: Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing, American Educational Research Association, American Psychological Association, & National Council on Measurement in Education (1985); Code of Professional Responsibilities in Educational Measurement, National Council on Measurement in Education (1995); and Code of Fair Testing Practices in Education, Joint Committee on Testing Practices (1988).
People of all ages and grade levels are eligible to take the ACT. Whether someone is in middle school or already graduated from high school, they are eligible to take the ACT test.
The 215 questions are split as follows: 75 in English, 60 in math, 40 in reading, 40 in science, and one optional writing portion.
There is no limit to how many times you can take the ACT, but there are some restrictions when it comes to how often you can take it. This means that generally speaking, you can only test once for every state date, though in some non-national tests such as special testing, you must wait 60 days between tests. Many students repeat the test twice, once as a junior and once as a senior.
If you experienced any problems during your first tests – such as not feeling well or not completely understanding questions, you should definitely try to retest. You also have the opportunity to retest if you feel that your score was not high enough and you can do better.
Retesting may be a good idea if you see a discrepancy between your ACT scores and your high school grades, or if you have completed coursework or an intensive review in the subject areas included in the ACT since you were tested. More than 55% of students who take the test twice raised their score on the retest. If you take the test more than once, you control which scores are sent to colleges or scholarship programs.
