Adding live plants to aquariums provides beauty, shelter, food and cleaner water. Plants also absorb carbon dioxide and waste product and increase the oxygen level, aside from producing tiny worms, rotifers and protozoa the fish eats.
Lighting is important if you want your plants to grow successfully. They need 12-14 hours of light each day, just like in nature. The amount of light you need to provide is around 3-5 watts per gallon. Compact fluorescent bulbs and par 20, 50-watt halogen bulbs both do the job right, so experiment with different types of lighting to find out what works best for your plants.
You will also need to add nutrients to keep your plants thriving. This is not a hard job. The nutrients are provided by the fish in the tank, though it might become necessary to add more. And fish waste provides fertilizer. Of course you can add artificial fertilizer to the water as well, but it is not necessary. Too much fertilizer will cause algae growth.
What about water temperature? An average temperature of 72f to 78f is usually great for the plants to thrive. The pH of the water is also important – a pH of 6.8 to 7.8 is ideal.
Snails are also helpful in maintaining a good aquarium environment. Snails clean plants of food and small algae, as they crawl over leaves and foliage. Some snails, however, should not be used. Ramshorn, pond and some other species eat the leaves and should not be used. But, if you notice bad snails, removing them is very simple. Simply place lettuce leaves at the top of the aquarium to attract the snails – remove everything with a net once all the snails have assembled on the lettuce pieces.
Before placing new plants in your aquarium, rinse them thoroughly in warm water to remove any insects you don’t want invading the aquarium. Strong roots and firm leaves are the signs of a healthy plant. Avoid plants that give off a strange smell, especially bulbs, as this is an indication that the plant is not healthy and may not grow properly once placed in your tank.
Younger plants generally adjust better to transplantation, so keep this in mind as well. The plant might lose a few leaves during the adjusting period. There is nothing unusual about that. To promote healthy new growth, just remove dead leaves as they appear, being careful not to damage the roots.
Adding live plants can give your aquarium a lift, and it can benefit your fish more than you imagine.

Many dogs get anxious when left alone at home. Separation anxiety in dogs exhibits behavior problems when they’re being left alone at home. This often leads to excessive barking, whining, chewing, house soiling and other types of destructive behavior. Your dog doesn’t have separation anxiety if he can spend the night away from you comfortably. But he probably suffers from it if he misbehaves when you leave him at home alone. Know that this isn’t something your dog does on purpose. It’s just a natural panic response for not being with the owner.
Many dog owners have problems with separation anxiety, but most don’t even realize what it is. You need to find out whether your dog has separation anxiety so that proper treatments can be given to correct this behavior.
Don’t make a big deal out of your good-byes. Long-dramatic farewell will create more anxiety in him. A casual “Goodbye” or “See you later” will do. When you first arrive home, ignore him for a couple of minutes, and then calmly pet him.
You should let your dog play and exercise everyday. This will keep him happy. He’ll be happy to rest or sleep when you’re away. Mental exercises such as training and socializing with other dogs are all great activities for your dog.
Your dog should have some toys and treats to occupy him when he’s alone. Put some treats in his toys.
You should train your dog to be used to your departure. You can try leaving him for a few minutes only at first. Don’t fuss over him. You should repeat this until he won’t get anxious. Try leaving him for longer and longer periods. Make sure to practice this over and over again until he gets used to being alone at home.

Right after you have welcomed a new dog into your home, you should think about getting a basic dog insurance policy. This usually covers third party liability that can compensate a person who has been bitten or injured by your dog. It can also pay for property damages, in the event your pet has caused such.
Aside from the basic plan, you should look at comprehensive medical coverage for your pet, as well. This can give you more peace of mind in case your dog gets sick or is injured in an accident. Insurers usually cover accidents, hospitalizations, medications, veterinary care and if necessary, even surgery.
Dog insurance is available either as temporary or lifetime coverage. Before you pay any premiums, make sure that you will have enough medical coverage for conditions that are common to his breed. There are some policies that provide death benefits, as well. This means you will be compensated, in case your pet friend meets an accidental death or dies due to a fatal illness.
To get the most affordable yet comprehensive coverage, go online and compare premiums and benefits. Not only will this save you time but you can also look at web pages of insurers and see how reliable they are. Know the limitations of the policy before you actually purchase one.
Your veterinarian and other friends who own pets are also good sources for referrals. Most of these plans set an annual deductible, and you will only get compensated for the injury or damages above such amount. See if the plans cover other areas such as vaccines, dental visits and annual medical exams.
You may be required to use the veterinarians listed under your insurer’s network. However, there are also insurers that would reimburse your medical costs if you prefer to use a veterinarian of your choice. To get the most affordable dog insurance, do your research first, compare benefits and prices and make the right choice for your pet.

Vizslas are dogs that originated in the Hungarian region. It was bred as a hunting dog, so the Vizsla has a highly developed sense of smell and motivation. They are both pointers and retrievers, and they were historically used to hunt quail or pheasant but can also be used to hunt waterfowl. The breed began to be imported into the United States during the 1950s.
A recognizable feature of the Vizsla is its color. The standard for the breed is a uniform rusty brown. The eyes, nose, and nails should all blend into the cinnamon coat. They are strong dogs with a lean build, and they have cat-like paws with narrow pads. They average 45-65 pounds and stand about two feet tall.
A notable characteristic of these animals is that they have no odor. Their short coat is easily maintained with dry cloth rub-downs, and they often clean themselves like a cat. A full bath and groom is only required a few times a year.
Vizslas have an incredible amount of energy and become mischievous when bored. They fare best in rural settings but can live in apartments or in suburban homes with fenced yards. But beware, these dogs can leap fences of six feet. Regardless of where you live, make sure the animal is given enough space and time to run. Two hours of exercise daily is recommended. They should also be trained. Because of their sensitivity, handlers should be patient and gentle while working with these animals.
Like many dog breeds, Vizslas are somewhat susceptible to hip dysplasia. Sometimes the dogs will have issues with skin or food allergies, and occasionally general anesthesia can present problems. But overall, the breed as a whole is very healthy.
Vizslas enjoy being indoors with their owners. They are touch-oriented animals and follow their humans everywhere, so they rate high on the companionship scale. Their affection and devotion makes them wonderful family dogs, but they should be supervised with young children because of their size and rambunctiousness.

Aside from the looks of course, there are other things you will want to pay attention when buying a collar for your dog.
Sizing your dog for the collar is definitely the first thing you should do right away. Dogs come in different sizes, as do their necks. If you get a collar that is too tight, you dog can choke from it, but even if it doesn’t, it can be very uncomfortable, and it can become a problem if your dog isn’t even full grown yet. That’s because the collar will only get tighter as they continue to grow. But of course, if the collar you get is too large, then it will be easy for your dog to slide their neck out of it if they don’t like wearing it. Use a tape measure to size the dog’s neck for the collar. This will make the job of buying one that much easier, whether you decide to ship online or at a local pet store. If you find a particular collar you are interested in, you can ask a store attendant if it is available in your dog’s size, or if you are shopping online, you can just check the available sizes on stock. It shouldn’t be hard choosing such a collar since there is a wide variety of designs and colors you can take your pick from. Because it is softer and more comfortable, most pets don’t mind wearing nylon collars at all. Chains are popularly used on bigger dogs. Some collars even have attachments, accessories, or are adorned with things like rhinestones for something that is totally different.
