A great looking patio is an asset to any home’s garden. It offers a place for outdoor entertaining or recreation or just a place to enjoy the privacy of your home’s outdoor spaces. Most patios have hard surfaces made of paving stones, rocks, flagstones, cement or treated wood. When patios are in town and city gardens, they are usually enclosed to ensure that the homeowner can enjoy some privacy.
Patio designs are better if they’re simple. This is a small space and too much clutter not only detracts from the peace and calm of a patio but from its attractiveness. A patio should be designed like a room. You don’t want to sit in a room packed with as much furniture as possible and you don’t want to sit on a patio that’s crammed full of every plant imaginable, hordes of lawn gnomes and seating for twelve.
Patios are wonderful planting areas. Small trees, herbs, fruits and vegetables and all manner of flowers do well in containers on patios. Raised beds are nice ways to border patios and to have more space for planting. Don’t forget to check out the availability of light on your patio before buying plants for it.
Patio trellises offer even more privacy to a patio. As the patio is separated from the outside world, so can it be separated from the rest of the garden. Creeping vines planted on trellises offer a semblance of privacy and a visual separation from other spaces. Think about the flow of space on your patio before selecting trellises.
Have you thought of installing a hot tub on the patio? If you enjoy hot tubs in cool weather and can afford the fixture as well as its upkeep, maybe a hot tub is for you. A hot tub can be a very special addition to a private patio.
Put some time into your patio’s lighting. You will undoubtedly want some candles and lanterns. But what about other types of artificial lighting? Do you want a stronger light so you can read in your favorite chair in the evening? Would you like to enhance some part of your patio – perhaps a container of flowers or a lovely seating area, with lighting? Is there a place you’d like to keep in shadow? Think about these things before you purchase lighting.
A great looking patio can be a sanctuary in your home where you can enjoy your privacy, enjoy outdoor recreation or entertain your friends and family. Before you start your patio take some time to sit down and plan it out. You’ll be glad that you did.

Water features are aesthetically pleasing additions to gardens and lawns. To name some water features: ponds, mini-lakes, jacuzzis, fountains etc. Water features can be high or low maintenance, but they are attractive enough to make the expense worth it. Here are some tips for you if you want to install something like these in your lawn…
Fountain
By far, garden fountains are the best water feature you can install. A wall water fountain in particular can lend elegance to an ordinary wall. There are more than a few ways to have these elegant fixtures in your garden. You can have a landscaper do it for you or you can do it yourself. If you’re not keen on spending thousands for the labor alone, you can do it yourself.
Do-it-yourself garden fountains are easy to find and easier to install if you have the right tools. What you can do is to ask a friend’s help. There are stand alone fountain designs and mounted designs to choose from.
Choose a good position for your fountain, preferably at the center of your garden where everyone can see it. Have fun with your fountain by installing some lights. Lights are not the only accessories for fountains. Waterfalls and sculptures are an elegant combination.
Your choice of fountain design should depend on the size of your garden. Space saving wall fountains work well if your garden is small. If you have pets, though, you might need to think twice before you get a fountain. Wall garden fountains are better than stand alone ones if you have pets, for obvious reasons.
Interested in waterfalls?
Installing a waterfall requires a bit more patience than installing a water fountain. First of all, if the set up does not include a way to recycle the flowing water, the water bill could make you give up on your project. If you’re using a pump that simply uses the same amount of water every day, you need to change the water frequently. Next, your walls must be designed nicely or else the water will seem like it’s just flowing down the wall. The water from the falls can go into your pond first.
You can find garden pond kits in the same section as the water fountain kits. You must check your pond weekly if the water has become murky with the dirt and old leaves. A word of warning, though. If you own an expanse of lawn where you have your plants, you want your pond to be way beyond the reach of your automatic lawn mower.
Here’s a website that will cover more about water wall fountains

Care tips for lasting flower arrangements can be used to make sure that your bouquets and flowers last as long as possible. Receiving flowers or purchasing flowers can be a wonderful treat and add a splash of color to any room. However it is very disappointing when the flowers begin to droop the next and completely die in only a short time. These tips are very quick and easy to perform and will ensure that your flowers last for as long as possible.
You want to change the water regularly and ensure that you regularly have clean and fresh water in the vases. Try to change the water daily though if this is not possible then changing the water once every 2 days will suffice. Make sure you empty out the old water and fill the vase with new water.
You should remove the flowers every few days and cut off the bottom of the stems to ensure that the flowers can pick up the fresh water. This is easiest to do every few days when you change the water.
The temperature that your flowers are in will also affect their life. Cooler temperatures are better as you will notice all of the florist have large coolers where they keep their flowers. Keep your flower arrangements away from heat sources such as stoves, radiators and extremely sunny windows. At night you should put the flowers in a cool place such as a porch area or basement. Refrigerators are not good as the temperatures used for storing food is much lower than appropriate for flower storage.
It is important that you get rid of any drooping flower and dead or dying leaves regularly. These can fall in the water and cause the water to spoil faster. If you are worried that the arrangement will start looking thin then you can add new cuttings to keep the arrangement looking full. You can also change to a smaller vase if you do not want to add new cuttings.
One of the first things you want to do is ensure that you are purchasing good flowers and blooms in the first place. Make sure your bouquet holds fresh flowers that do not have any broken petals, yellowing areas, rotting spots, brown marks or wilting. These damaged flowers will die quite quickly even if you do all of the tips mentioned in this article.
It is also a good idea to purchase Richmond Hill Flowers that have a long life such as daisies, mums, alstroemeria, carnations and mini-carnations. Some flowers just do not last long once they are cut.
You want to put the flower sin water as soon as you can and if this is not possible then keeping them cool is a good idea. When cutting the stems you want to use a knife instead of scissors as scissors can cause damage and interfere with the flowers drinking the water. Make sure you strip away any leaves that fall in the water as these can cause bacterial growth and can foul the water.

Best known as the motion activated sprinkler, used in lots of homes around the globe to scare away annoying and unwanted animals and wild birds like deer, cat, raccoon, dog, squirrel and bird. These pets or animals love to explore our properties every day and poo all over the place, in the yard, in the flower garden, in the swimming pool, they scavenge on the trash can and sometimes ruin property. Keeping them away is not easy, good thing someone invented the motion sensor sprinkler. As we all know, virtually all animals really hate to get wet, even the great lion hates it, so they integrate it into a sensor and made the automatic animal repellant. It works by sensing the presence of an animal by means of the built-in electronic motion sensor and chase them out with a rapid harmless burst of water. It is safe, effective and humane.
Utilize it to protect your lawn and flowerbed, to guard your fish and chicken from predator. This will save you time and hard earned cash from damage to property caused by curious intruders like raccoon and cat who enjoys to dig and eat whatever they can come across. Position the sprinkler to watch over those places that are most important to you, recently planted plants and newly seeded lawns seems to attract animals as soon as you finish the job. The motion detector sprinkler sees animals as small as squirrels but allows some birds to wander around.
It is easy to install, after you pulled it out of the package all you have to do is mount the electric battery that will power its sensor and electronic circuit and attach the device to the hose, it has a threaded inlet piping that matches into a standard garden hose by turning clockwise to tighten it up. Once connected, press the stake into the ground using your foot to fix it in place and position it to the place where you want to secure and set the nozzle head spray area and you’re finished. You can check if it’s functioning by waving your hands in front of it, if you set up it properly it will automatically spray a burst of water for a few seconds and stop all set for the next action. It can recognize any activity within its range normally medium to large animals and birds.
There are various types of motion pet deterrent, there’s one that uses high-pitched sound and air burst to frighten out kitties. This device is good only for inside use in which you can’t use liquid. Instead it utilizes a special canister which is filled with pressurized gas and is readily offered in the market nowadays. It is effective up to three feet away and it’s unscented and safe. Unlike motion sensor water sprinkler which needs a permanent supply of water, it doesn’t need to be attached to a garden hose, thus, you can place it just about anywhere.
There’s a much simpler kind of animal repeller, one that doesn’t involve water or pressurized air to run and almost servicing free. It uses only an ultrasonic sound to frighten away animals. It uses the exact same principle as the other two products but without the inconvenience of the garden hose and the expensive gas cartridge to purchase. All you have to do is to make sure that you change the battery when drained. This type of product is good both for indoor and outside use and usually has a 4,000 square feet range. It has a weatherproof body construction so you can leave it outside without worrying of getting wet in the rain.
One of the trusted brands when it comes to movement sensing sprinkler is the Scarecrow motion activated sprinkler. It detects and sprays animals in a 1,000 square foot area. It utilizes a motion detector sensor and powered by a 9-volt battery. It’s the most effective method in repelling all type of animals including birds.

There is no big mystery behind the popularity of hot tubs. Imagine that after yet another seemingly endless day of drudgery you could lower yourself into a tub of hot water and relax as jets of pressurized water work out the day’s accumulated stress and pain. The only real question here is how to figure out which hot tub is the best one for you.
One of the first factors to consider is what size hot tub you will need. This will depend on who you plan to share your hot tub with. If you plan on having friends coming over to use your hot tub then you will need to purchase one that is large enough to fit all of you – maybe a standard 6 person one If you are looking for a hot tub to use as a romantic place for you and your significant other then a smaller hot tub will do, and you will not have to pay as much.
How you choose to soak will also have a big impact on the hot tub you choose. Some people want built in entertainment systems. For those sorts there are tubs that come with Televisions, DVD player and CD players. You might like the look of a tub with underwater lighting or prefer a tub that features a storm seat. Of course if you are buying a tub to really take advantage of the massage benefits you might want to be sure that you have chosen a tub that has lots of jets and a high powered motor . You do not want to have to shimmy down to get your back in line with the jets t work out the knots in your tired aching muscles. Then again, if you just want a quiet soak, the tub you choose will be quite different.
After narrowing down the elements that are important to you, look at how much space you have for the hot tub. If space is not a constraint, rectangular tubs are a great selection. However, for those with restricted room, round and square hot tubs are more efficient with saving space. Hot tubs can be enclosed with virtually any kind of material. Red wood or decking boards are used by most homeowners, although there are many other wood variations to select.
Of course, in all the fun of choosing your new hot tub do not forget to make the most important choices of all: those that are meant to keep everyone safe. You should hire licensed plumbing and electrical contractors to install your hot tub if it is not installed by the manufacturer’s representatives. Also, you will need a cover to keep out leaves and other debris and if you have kids that cover should be a hard locking type to keep them safely out of the tub when you are not there to supervise.

An aqua globe is an instrument used for watering the plants. As the name suggests, it is round in shape and is made up of a glass body and stem. The equipment is used extensively but the efficiency is not as much as the advertisers proclaim. However, they are widely in use and can indeed make watering of your indoor plants much easier.
How Would You Describe Its Appearance?
An aqua globe is made up of a globe like structure made of glass which is linked to a glass stem. Availability of various colorful variants make it a truly novel and aesthetic product. So, many owners do not have to take the trouble of hiding them and can safely flaunt them along with their beautiful indoor plants. However, if it still creates a mismatch, you can place it behind a bigger plant and can easily keep it covered from the public eyes.
How Does It Work?
The equipments have a simple working process. The glass sphere should be filled with water. Many people fill these globes from the kitchen sink, and so this process is very much hassle free. You have to almost completely fill the bulb with water, so that it can last you for few days. After filling push it into the soil in the plant pot. Water reaches the soil from the globe like structure through the stem. The speed of water flow is not too high or too low, which disallows too much or too scarce watering.
How to utilize an aqua globe adequately?
The owner of this apparatus needs to keep certain things in mind. A glass body makes it brittle and care is to be taken while planting it in the soil. When you are placing it inside the soil, you can drill a hole in the place where you want to place it. The glass can be shielded from the uneven soil by placing it in a pre-dug hole, to avoid damage.
Even though advertisers mention filling it once in a couple of weeks, take this with a pinch of salt. Monitor the water level regularly and fill it again when required.
For enabling the roots to enjoy direct flow, tilt it slightly while planting. However, the instrument should be firmly placed within the soil, otherwise the top heavy design can make it fall and it can break due to the impact.
Flaws
Daily use causes some its flaws to surface. The instrument is only ideal for deep rooted plants. Many people also complain about the efficacy of these instruments and claim that the old ways of watering the plants are much more accurate and fruitful. The flow of water is considered to be scarce by many, which proves insufficient for plants.
It proves to be an ideal choice for people who experience a time crunch and do not get a chance to devote regular attention to their plants. They might not prove to be a one stop solution for all plant watering issues but they can help in making the desired indoor garden, you have always wanted.

Ringworm is a very common form of skin disease that is found in both cats. Although its name makes you think otherwise, this skin disease isnt caused by any type of worm. Its actually caused by fungi known as Dermatophytes that feed on dead tissues found in the surface of the skin, spreading them around the skin of the animal.
With cats, there is a certain type of fungi known as M Canis that is found with nearly 95% of all ringworm cases. Normally, cats will get the ringworm disease from contaminated objects like bedding, clippers, or another animal that already has the disease. If there are animals in your home or around your house that have the ringworm disease, your cat could very easily contract it this way.
If you have kittens or cats that are under a year old in your home, you should always use precaution, as they are more susceptible to ringworm. Kittens can easily contract the disease, especially if you allow them to go outside. They can easily come in contact with a contaminated object or another cat that has the disease. Kittens take a long time to build their immune system up, and in the meantime they are more apt to get common disease such as ringworm.
The most common symptoms of ringworm in cats are rough or broken hairs, or hair loss around the head or the paws. Ringworm can easily be identified by a patch of scaly skin on the body that appears itchy and inflamed. There will also be broken hairs around the patch of scaly skin. This area is very sensitive, and you should never try to touch it, as it will hurt your cat.
If you notice any of the above symptoms with your pet, you should immediately schedule an appointment with your vet. If the vet diagnosis your cat with ringworm, he may prescribe ointment or tablets. What he describes however, will determine on how serious the ringworm is. If he prescribes tablets to your cat, you should give them with meals. Ointment on the other hand, is normally spread into the coat, topically. You should always use what your vet prescribes on a daily basis, to ensure that your cat heals. The healing process will take time, normally around six weeks or more.
Cats that have ringworm should be labeled as infectious. If you have children in the house, you should keep them away from your pet. Whenever you handle your cat, you should always use gloves. Ringworms are contagious, and you should always use caution. Even though its a mild disease, ringworm can result in serious problems due to the slow recovery time and fact that its contagious.

Poison ivy is a woody vine that belongs to the family Anacardiaceae which is of the sumac family. It is the most common allergy to people in the United States, with more than half of the population being affected once in contact.
Many people think that rubbing or scratching the irritation from poison ivy will cause it to spread, but this is incorrect. The only way to spread the rash is to spread the urushiol oil, so it is best to wash the area well once a rash is seen and then there is no oil residue remaining. If a blister forms due to the rash, you can break the blisters but this can cause infection to set up and scarring as well. But the blisters bursting will not cause the rash to spread.
There are a few cures that seem to work better than others, and these are the ones that get rid of the urushiol oil that is located on the leaves of the plant that causes the irritation. Some think they are simply immune to the plant, and this is completely false. For people who have never had it before, poison ivy can take more than a week or so to have a rash appear, and the more times that you come into contact with it the more apt you are to have the rash.
Some of the symptoms include red raised rashes or flat red welts where the poison ivy contact occurred. After appearing, the rash will be accompanied by an itch that will be around until the rash is gone. There are many different solutions available that are made to deal with this kind of problem.
A product called Rhuli gel is offered by Band Aid, and is helpful drying out the blisters that will be present in the red areas, which deals with the itch. This product is available through department stores and drug stores in the first aid or health and beauty aisles.
Another product used for this type of problem is Ivy Dry. It can be found in cream or liquid forms, and gets rid of the itch as well. Some people will go visit a doctor, where prednisone is given often. It is a corticosteroid that helps to keep the immune system from responding to the oil and causes the itching to be relieved.
A lot of doctors will also suggest that a warm bath with Epsom salt be used to help rid the itch and then to follow with a slathering of calamine lotion. Within a few days the itch and redness will go away, and no signs will remain.
You are looking for that perfect poison ivy cure, aren’t you? We have a poison ivy remedy that many people wish they knew about – you should try it out.

At some point in your life, you may have to pay tribute to someone by sending flowers to their funeral. This is the most popular way of recognizing the death and sending sympathy to the family. During this somber event, flowers have been known to provide a sense comfort by their beauty and color. Looking at the most popular flowers for a funeral may help you decide which sends the message you best wish to convey.
When someone thinks of death and funerals, the first flower that normally comes to mind are the lilies. Their whiteness and design symbolizes peace and innocence, which indicates that the soul of the departed one has been reunited with those things. This makes them one of the most popular choices to send.
Although roses are associated with Valentine’s Day, they are still a very popular choice to send to a funeral. The message of youthfulness, innocence and reverence is said in the white rose. The red rose communicates the message of love, courage and respect of the dearly departed. Pink is the one to choose if you wish to offer the sentiment of love and grace as well as gentility.
Chrysanthemums or mums as they are better known for, is a symbol of grief. Choosing this flower shows that this is a time of grief and you are offering sympathy to the loved ones left behind. An arrangement of gladioli on the other hand offers the sentiment of sincerity, moral integrity and strength of character, paying tribute to the deceased’s character.
Another very popular arrangement is made with carnations. A combination of colors or an arrangement of red and white is appropriate for this occasion. Similar to roses in color, they also carry their own special sentiment. To show admiration to the one that has passed you would choose a red carnation. A symbol of remembrance comes with the pink color, while you can communicate the sentiment of innocence and peace by choosing white.
It is also appropriate to add the favorite flower of the deceased into any arrangement that you order. If there was a favorite flower or arrangement that you know they loved, this adds a special touch of sentiment to the bouquet. Even a favorite of the family or a loved one close to the one who has passed, added to the arrangement, is suitable on these occasions.
After you have decided on what flower or flowers you are going to send, you want to consider the arrangement they’ll be presented in. A single type of flower or a mixture of several can be chosen. The florist can arrange them in a vase or basket for you or you may want them in a spray, which is a one sided arrangement that can be set upon a stand or other surface for display. A wreath of flowers offers the meaning of eternal life, a very popular choice for funerals.
Conveying the feelings that you have for the deceased comes through in the flowers that you choose. Families will be comforted by whatever you send, even if they aren’t the most popular flowers for a funeral. The sentiment will show them that their loved one is missed and can add warmth to an otherwise cold day.
