One of the most popular storage beds today is the captains bed because of its superb functionality and practical design that suits just about any user. This particular bed design was developed many years ago during the era of the wooden ships. Ship builders needed a practical design for the captain’s quarters that would not only provide a place to sleep, but also offer storage. There was little room for additional chests to store personal items. An all-in-one solution was developed that provided a sleep space with drawers underneath. This allowed much needed floor space in the tiny cabins.
Even though times have changed, the captains bed design has remained popular because of its combination design that offers funtionality and practicality to any bedroom. However, the design has continually evolved over the years and is no longer simply for children’s rooms. You can find this design also for youth and adults who want maximum storage capacity while still enjoying a beautiful piece of bedroom furniture. Everyone can now enjoy the benefits of a captains bed.
There is a huge selection of styles now found in the captain’s bed design. It is no longer solely built with a nautical flavor, although many people who love the look, can find handsome reproductions of the first style. There are also mission, traditional, cottage, and modern style captain beds that make it easy to match just about any home decor. There are also various sizes available including king, queen, full, and twin size bed frames that provide a good foundation for any type of mattress that is added.
Storage space is the most important feature of a captains bed design and there is no limit to what you can choose. You can find as little as 3 drawers in a twin bed frame and as much as 14 drawers in a huge king size captain’s bed. The most popular captain’s storage bed is the queen size which can also be found in various storage designs such as 4 drawers underneath or up to 14 drawers in all.
There is also almost no limit to the woods, finishes and colors available among the various captain bed styles. There is pine, solid oak, cherry, walnut, and maple. You can find these either finished in various stains or unfinished, for those who like to provide their own finishing touches. Some contemporary beds can also be found in black and white which are easily matched with modern home decor. Just as there are many variations on size, style, storage designs and finishes, there is a wide range of prices available from high end to modestly priced beds. There is no better design that offers superior function and convenience for everyone than the modern day captains bed.

Being a homeowner doesn’t mean that you would need to have a large budget just to give your home a makeover. Any motivated do it yourselfer can redecorate a room and have it looking sleek and fashionable for under $1000. Remodeling with a budget in mind not only saves you money, but also increases the resale value of your home.
You can change the mood of your house just by painting and changing colors, especially uplifting your spirits during the cold winter season. Considered as a simple to do home improvement project that’s easy on your budget is painting your house if you do it yourself. It is not necessary to go after the most expensive paint you can find.
When we say expensive, it doesn’t necessarily mean the best quality paint. A good rule of thumb as to how much you will spend painting just one room around 300 square feet will be less than $200, including necessary supplies of rollers, paint roller tray, duct tape and paint brushes.
Optional materials would include a drop cloth, rags, or even a paint bucket. You can use old blankets that you don’t mind getting paint on, or use cardboard. Rags can be replaced with old towels or damp paper towels, and paint buckets will only be necessary if you plan to mix paints for faux finish painting.
If you want to change the look of the room without breaking the bank, another way would be using wallpaper. Proper wallpapering can suit anyone’s need and budget, and can help to change the mood as well as adding elegance to a room. You can make a room appear larger or smaller just by choosing the right wallpaper, giving an illusion of height for rooms with lower ceilings. Using wallpaper can also add a design and pattern that is very difficult to accomplish with paint unless you are a talented artist.
The average price for a single roll of wall covering is about $12. There are factors affecting the price namely how elaborate the design, the exclusivity of the design, if it’s made by a famous designer, and the type of wall covering.
The latest rage today are faux finishes and they are also really easy to do. With just a little desire and some simple practice, faux finishes can be created by almost anyone. To get you started, just get a simple guidebook and you will be creating beautiful faux finishes in no time.

For many people the bedroom is incredibly important. Having a tidy, soothing place to go and unwind after a hard day’s work is important. Whether it be a studio apartment or in a mansion, this is irrelevant. For many, it is a haven of peace and sanctuary and somewhere to get away from the outside world. Others will find that this is also their work space. For this reason contemporary bedding sets is important.
This is going to be dependent on the type of room that one has, of course, and personal taste. Some like to have colors which are going to match everything else in the room. A lot of customers will like to have a specific theme running through it, and it may be a part of the overall design. Winter time sees the need for extra bedclothes so this must also be thought about.
The types of contemporary bed linens available will depend on whether one is single or there are two people sleeping in the bed. Beds for singles require less, although sometimes people will opt to have two pillows. A lot of people like to give their bedroom a generic design which they fill in themselves. As such, they will keep the place warm and cozy.
The bedroom is a personal space for everybody. It must be a place where someone can go and relax and forget about the rest of the outside world. A lot of people like nothing more than to come home and curl up in bed with a good book. Therefore bedding is highly important, not just for sleeping but for overall comfort. One needs to find the right modern bedding to suit their preferences.
Take a look around in clothes stores, home stores and furniture stores for the different options that one has. Often, many will hold sales and sell things at discount prices. Luxury items are generally considered to be the likes of silk and satin. During January, a lot of stores like to get rid of their stock and therefore January sales are quite common.
Summer is usually a time when the weather is much warmer and therefore less bedding is going to be needed. Many who live in unusually hot climates will know this therefore choose accordingly. Sometimes the basics of a pillow, mattress protector, bottom sheet and then a thin cotton sheet are all that is needed. This will allow the person to keep cooler.
Winter time is another story. For those who wish to save on heating bills, many will choose an abundance of different blankets. The more one will have depends on how cold it actually is. Aside from the basics, such as the bottom sheet and mattress protector, there are others which are also involved. These include the likes of the aforementioned cotton sheet, and then perhaps a wool blanket over that. Along with this, one should be covered by a thick duvet.
When looking for bedding collections, one can also search the Internet to see what else might be on sale. This is accomplished by selecting the correct mix of modern bed linens.

When decorating with nautical bed linens you may think you limit yourself regarding color. This style of decorating, however, has a wide array of color choices. Blues, greens, white, reds, browns, the colors possibilities are limitless if you use your imagination. What do you wish to accomplish in the space by your color choice?
Take into consideration the atmosphere you wish to create when choosing a color palette. Peace and calm are created when using blues and greens. White will add drama to the space. Red lends itself to feelings of excitement and aggression. If insomnia is a common problem you may wish to eliminate the use of red or use it in very limited amounts.
Begin by choosing your theme. Will you choose a lighthouse theme, sailing, beach scenes or maybe a tropical theme? With any of these nautical style bedding choices, you will want to choose your primary color scheme and add your accents from there. Your accents may be added with your furniture, curtains, art work and accessories.
Once you have chosen your colors, decide how much of your theme you wish to have throughout the space. Keep in mind that the bedroom should be a place that is restful, so you may not want to over saturate the space with to many things. If you are using a lighthouse theme, which is commonly thought of for nautical bedding collections, you may want to choose to accessorise with other types of nautical artwork. Over utilizing an item in theme will cause clutter, which does not allow for restful nights.
The tropics as a theme will allow you a wide variety of colors to choose from. Some of these choices may include oranges, pinks, yellows and even purples. When you take that tropical vacation in your mind what do you envision? Maybe you have been to the tropics and you have seen the boldness of the colors you wish to explore in your decorating. Any one of the colors you think of in this palette are a good jumping off point for your space.
No matter the theme you choose, accenting with wood is optimal. Say you have chosen a sailing theme, accenting with a lighter wood that makes one think of a sail boat would be a quaint design choice. Using whitewashed wood in a beach scene creates the illusion of wood that has been worn by erosion. In a tropical theme, deep rich woods bring in the warmth against the cooler color choices inspired by the vegetation.
Keeping in mind what other activities are done in this space begin to envision the atmosphere you wish to create. Today many people have their office in their bedroom or an entertainment area, possibly a library. If any of these other activities are performed in this space, you my wish to take that into consideration when deciding on colors. If you enjoy reading after a long day at the office, using the more serene blue and green may be the direction you wish to go. If you have your office space in the bedroom and need to have high energy to perform your office duties, using a more bold color palette may be wise. No matter the theme or palette you choose be sure you choose based on your sleeping needs as well.
The possibilities are many when decorating with nautical bed sets. If you have fear when it comes to nautical decorating ideas, start out small.

It doesn’t take a MENSA member to deduce that a mattress can cost serious money, hence the need to make sure it stays in good shape. Unfortunately, there are some things that are inevitable, such as death, taxes, the Chicago Cubs failing to win a World Series, and your mattress being victim to the occasional spill or stain. But how exactly is a mattress cleaned? After all, it’s not like you can just toss it in the washer if it becomes soiled.
Preventative action is the best thing you can do to keep your mattress from getting dirty. One thing you can do would be to keep the mattress and box spring in its protective hypoallergenic cover, to keep them away from dirt, grime and dust mites. But this does not protect your mattress from liquids that might seep through the case. To keep your mattress protected from infantile oopsie-daisies or spills, you can place a rubber sheet on the mattress itself.
But if your children are older (or if you don’t have children), you probably would be better off not using a rubber sheet, because face it, these babies are uncomfortable to sleep on, not to mention the fact that they can contract after a period of usage. But hey, nobody’s perfect, and there is always a chance your mattress can get stained by an errant cup of breakfast coffee, which is why we have come up with the following mattress cleaning tips.
Your vacuum cleaner would be your best friend when removing dirt or dust. This is something most mattress manufacturers would definitely recommend, and in fact their care tags often include a suggestion to use a vacuum to get rid of those nasty dust mites.
If you have a preferred stain removal agent that you regularly use and want to use it as well on your liquid stains on your mattress, then I have one word for you – DON’T. Mattresses, after all, are made of special material that mixes with chemicals as drinking does with driving. Instead, you should just try to blot up any liquid and leave the stain alone. As you all know, that won’t always work – there are some stains that give off a repugnant odor, and you may be the type of person who is an uber-neat freak and can’t stand the sight of it – in that case, gently scrub the unpleasantry off with a cloth dampened in cold water. Again, resist the temptation of using a bold cleaner – use nothing stronger than mild soap if the stain is especially nasty, just as long as you don’t aggravate the wetness of your mattress or box spring.
Once you clean up the spill or stain, leave the sheets off your mattress and let it thoroughly air dry before you cover it back up. Nothing says “anathema” in terms of sleeping more than a moldy mattress, especially if you are allergic to mold.
Once your mattress is clean and dry, you may want to use this opportunity to flip it over so that it wears more evenly. This technique can extend the lifespan of your mattress – try doing this about three or four times a year.

Sometimes it seems like the only rule to home decorating is “the more expensive, the better your taste.” It is easy to get carried away with your “vision” for your home and forget to watch your spending. If you don’t have a lot of money to spend, trying to create a good look and feel for your home can be incredibly stressful. Even if you don’t have a lot of money to spend you can still create a wonderful decorating scheme.
Here are a few hints to help you save money when you want to decorate your home.
Don’t go overboard too quickly-start small. Don’t worry about filling up every inch of your home’s free space with decoration; just start with a few things and build around them. Save up your money to buy the things you really love and that you really want to look at every day.
Get used to surfing the internet. The internet is full of independent artists, photographers and creators who are trying to sell their work. If you are looking for handmade goods for affordable prices you can usually find great stuff on Etsy. Many artists upload their work for free to community sites like Flickr where you can look through their portfolios for free. Many artists build personal sites that they use as marketplaces for what they create. There are great and affordable deals all over the world wide web-you don’t have to stay with the traditional sites like Ebay or Amazon.
Stock photo websites and websites like Flickr are great for finding photos that you can print and use for decoration. Using the photos you find on a site like Flickr is easy-most are uploaded with the intent that they will be used-simply save them and print them with your own desktop printer or have them professionally printed at a print shop. It isn’t hard to decorate with great photography if you know where to look for it! You could even do this with your own photos. Finding affordable software that you can use to edit and enhance your photos is easy. Editing your own photos is fun and it can save money. There is no law that says home decorating has to be an expensive endeavor. You are not required to dedicate a bunch of time to the task. Decorating should be an enjoyable experience. When a home decorating project takes up all of your time, empties your bank account and causes you a lot of stress it is harder to enjoy the finished project.
