Cabins have never been famous for being glamorous or luxurious in any way, but when you live in one full time or if you rent cabins to vacationers and tourists, they need to have that special something that really makes them look and feel rustic. It is easy to slap up a wagon wheel and put a mail box on it, but it takes more than that to create a really rustic looking home that is also beautiful in its own right. You can make a cabin or a log home for that matter everything it should be if you know the right furniture and accessories that should be used on the inside.
If you live in a cabin, you want it to have comfortable furniture that looks like it belongs in the space. Rustic furniture can be misinterpreted if you have not be exposed to the beautiful hand crafted pieces that are available today. Buttery soft leather sofas and chairs with metal tack trim are a perfect choice to use in the cabin den around that cozy fireplace. Using rustic lighting that looks like real lanterns or lamps that are made using animal sculptures for the base will add that special something that is wonderful cabin dcor.
Cabins have to have beds too and when you think about a log bed, it won’t be what you imagine. Even the bunk beds that are crafted from logs today are beautiful to look at, but they can’t even compare with the elegance that you will see in logs beds made in a queen or king size bed frame. They are simply unique and so fitting to use in a cabin master bedroom. They are made from a variety of wood species so you can choose the wood grain and color you like, but it will be the quality and craftsmanship you really love.
Then there are always those odd pieces of furniture that you use to fill in places or serve a particular function like end tables or hall tables. These rustic pieces will also fit right in with your cabin dcor. Once you have chosen all of your furniture and have it in place, then you can go through the cabin and add other decorative elements like imitation animal skin rugs or hand made Native American blankets. Of course, pottery, horse shoes, and natural things like wild flowers will complete your cabin or log home look.
Even cabins have the Internet these days and that is the best place in the world to locate specialty items like rustic log furniture, rustic lighting and you can even find rustic outdoor furniture so you can dress up the outside of your cabin too. In no time at all you can have your cabin outfitted in a luxuriant rustic dcor in not time.

There is a huge movement in our country and around the world really to return to simpler times when it comes to the way we live. People are learning that they can live in smaller places don’t don’t require as much resources to build. They want to use more solar energy and less water. The more each of us can reduce our environmental footprint the better. Of course, people don’t want to give up electricity or hot running water, but they are just trying to find better ways to have it.
Log cabins in this country were built by settlers and lived that simpler way of life because they had to. They might travel hundreds or miles or more from a settled place to clearing in the wilderness. If they land they chose was not clear, they cleared it and used the timber to build their log cabin homes. There were usually no near by settlements where they could run into town to buy what they needed, so learning to live off of the land for what they needed was necessary.
They made these cabins as comfortable as they could, but their furniture was roughly made because their tools were not as intricate as they are today. There furniture pieces were strictly functional like a table to prepare food on, a few rustic chairs to sit in and a log bed or two. They used timber that was indigenous to the area where they settled because it was easily available. They used their furnishings with pride because they took them from the land around them and they were self sufficient.
While rustic log furniture was definitely a part of the first cabin decoration, so were other things like hand woven blankets and pottery made by the Native Americans. These things were purchased from the few stores that sprang up from place to place or through direct trade with the Native Americans. These items are still commonly seen in cabins today because they provide that original feel of what a cabin looked like in those days.
For those that choose to live in a cabin style or a log home, they can still find these types of furnishings on line. It is easier today to outfit a rustic home than it was for the pioneer settlers. You can have your hand woven blankets, rustic log furniture, or other rustic decorations delivered right to your door. Your cabin or log home can have that same original look as those homes had many years ago, only you don’t have to build and craft it all yourself.

There are more home styles to choose from than ever before and when you build or buy one, it might be difficult to pick just one, but usually you only get one house at a time and a decision must be made. Usually a home purchase or build is going to be for many years to come and people want to be sure and get the one that is going to appeal to them for a long time. One home style that has been popular without ceasing for several centuries in the USA is a log home.
Just because a home is made from logs on the outside does not mean that they are not just as gorgeous and functional on the inside as any other style of home. Of course, you can have them so that the interior walls look like the log too or you can have them drywalled with sheet rock on the inside like a standard home is. Either way you will have a uniquely original house that has such a natural appeal.
Once you have your log home, you will want to furnish it with authentic rustic furniture pieces that will make the interior dcor suit the statement that the outside is making. You can choose buttery leather sofa and chairs for you living room or den. There are ornate log beds made from a variety of tree species that are so beautifully made you will forget they are supposed to be rustic. You can have wall sconces that look like lanterns and have gorgeous chandeliers made from metals and antlers. Your home will have a classic rustic feel, but the furnishings themselves will be anything but rough looking.
Finally you will have a home where your trophy fish can be mounted on the wall and not look out of place! You can scatter imitation animal print rugs here and there and use woolen Native American throws over the furniture for even more rusticity. Animal sculptures are always at home in any house and you can even get table lamps that have animals sculptures like deer, raccoons or bears as the base. You home will definitely look the part inside and out now.
A log home that is decorated in the rustic style is one where you and your guests can always feel relaxed. You won’t have to worry about it feeling too fancy for you, but it will still be beautiful in its own way. Once you have owned a log home, it is doubtful that you would want to trade it in for any other kind.

A lot of families still have those old cabins in the woods where they go to have some free time away from their busy lives. It is good for parents and kids alike to have time with one another just spend some quality time doing things they don’t get to do at home. Hopefully, there will be hiking, fishing, swimming and playing outdoor games to keep everyone occupied. Kids get bored easily and parents can too even if they need the rest.
It used to be that it wasn’t that common to have television and things of that nature in a cabin. Of course, some that wanted their cabins a little more modern might have installed an outdoor antennae, but chances are they might not have been able to pick up very much depending on where the cabin was located. Some cabins might even have had a telephone. These days it would be unheard of to not have these little luxuries even in a remote cabin.
It is so easy to have satellite television and satellite Internet installed these days. This means that no matter where your cabin is located, you can still watch all the television you want as well as get on the Internet if you want to or need to. A land line telephone might still be useful because you know you can never be totally assured of a cell phone signal in some remote places. Whether you like to admit it or not, most of us are terribly addicted to our television, Internet and telephones and find a hard time doing without any of them even for a day. Doing without these items for most kids is more like torture than a vacation.
Another aspect of your cabin life that you might need to update is the furniture. You need furniture that is appropriate for cabin decoration, but you also want it to be nice and comfortable. You can research on the Internet and find many sites that deal strictly in rustic furniture for cabins and rustic outdoor furniture as well. You can beautify your cabin inside and out and modernize the technology all at the same time and it will be the perfect vacation place that all of you will love.
When you have some modern conveniences, but still hang on to the rustic atmosphere with log furniture, you will feel like you are experiencing the best of both worlds. When your cabin has this much appeal, it is not likely you will meet with much resistance the next time you want to go there with the family. You will feel like you are getting away, but feel like you are going home all at the same time.

When you have a log house or a cabin that you are looking to decorate, you will definitely want to use rustic furniture that was designed with that kind of home in mind. Nothing else will look appropriate in it at all. If you have a modern home, you want to have modern furnishings, but for a cabin or country house, you want furnishings and decorations that speak only to that style. There is a reason that you chose a cabin to stay in some times or all of the time and you should want it to look the part inside and out.
If you think finding a furniture store where you live that handles rustic furniture and accessories might be challenging, you are probably correct in that assumption. There are not rustic furniture stores in every town, but there are plenty of choices when you use the Internet. You will find country and rustic pieces of all kinds and any complimenting accessories that you might want or need as well. You could outfit an entire cabin or log home in a day or less sitting right at your computer.
The best thing to do is begin with the largest pieces of furniture that you will need. That would be log beds, a leather and wood sofa, and probably a table and four chairs for eating. Most rustic furniture is made from woods like pine, aspen, hickory and some oak. Your preference is what will be the deciding factor in what you choose. Once you have the large pieces out of the way, then you can choose the accessories that you will need too.
You might wonder exactly what rustic lighting would look like, but when you see all of the options that you have, it will be clearer to you. There are chandeliers that can be made with metals. They might have little shades adorning them and accented with either real or simulated antlers. You might think that sounds a little too rustic, but just wait until you see some of them. You can find table lamps made from these same materials or you might prefer wall sconces that look like lanterns. Nothing could be more authentically rustic than that.
When describing decorating a country home, a log home or a cabin, the word rustic really can’t be used too much. It is the only word that adequately describes that particular look and feel. Picking the appropriate rustic pieces for your place will give you that country flare that is the most suitable for a home of that nature.

There are a lot of different style of houses that could incorporate rustic furniture into the scheme of things. Of course, if you have a Cape Cod, a Georgian or an old Victorian home, it might not work at all, but if you have a log home, a country home or a Ranch style house it could be a perfect choice. You could do the entire home in rustic charm or just a few rooms. How much or how little of the rustic look and feel you want would be left up to you to decide.
A boy’s room would look sensational with a set of rustic log bunk beds as the centerpiece. Adult beds can be found in twin, full, queen or king size made with logs of pine, cedar, hickory or other types of wood. Log beds are totally unique unto themselves and there are usually dressers, chest of drawers and bed tables to match them if that is what you prefer. A rustic style bedroom makes a wonderful and relaxing atmosphere to sleep in for anyone.
If you have a den, a family room or a study that you would like to give a little backwoods charm, you might think about using table lamps that have bears or deer sculptures for the base with an appropriate lamp shade. Chandeliers made from metal with antler or wood accents could be a perfect choice to hang over any country kitchen or dining room set. Lantern wall sconces would look great in a country den or study without looking out of place at all.
If you only want furniture and accessories in your home that looks like they were meant to be really used, then rustic is the way to go. The pieces will look peaceful and inviting to anyone that comes in the room. There will be none of that no touch or don’t sit there feeling you can get with some furniture.
